Maestro: a mere $1000 + postage get one delivered to your door. :-(
Barry, as for the battery, well you would call the mountains I climb just a
hill.
But they're on the SOTA list as a mountain.
So I want to take some power and a battery up.
One of them has old castle ruins on it.
I can drive to within 15 minutes walking distance and there is a dirt road
going up.
It not only counts points for SOTA, it also counts for Castles On The Air
(COTA).
I will run 25 watts from there with my Aerial-51 antenna and bend a few
S-meter needles! (hi)
I like to have a good signal when I go places. I put good antennas high
into the air.
In this respect I am thinking about building something like a modified golf
bag carrier to pull behind me with Scout and battery and antenna pole.
I am also looking for a very small radio for the occasion when I would go up
a real mountain.

Great point and I think Scott Robbins W4PA bears mentioning in that vain.
He's one of THE top cw contesters in the world.
Flex has already come around with the Maestro, although all of us old
Seinfeld fans chuckle when we hear about "the Maestro." ;-)
