First things first, I had a BMW R-100R for about 15 years and went on many
expeditions with it, including one to Liechtenstein in the early 90s.  I ran
the European Field Day Contest in QRP class using my highly modified
Argonaut 509 and took first place overall in the contest in my class.  Had
to push start the bike at the end of the contest and luckily it was only
about 50 ft. until the road went downhill!

The Guzzis are lovely machines!  Every bit as cool as the Beamers, though
the Beamers are a bit more reliable.  I fell in love with the old T3, though
I never had one.   "California Dreaming" (hi).  For the rest of you reading
this, Moto Guzzi had a model called the California and we bikers were always
drooling over it and "California dreaming!"

BTW, on the return trip from IOM in 1995, I rode my naked bike from 50 miles
north of London to my home in Munich in ONE SINGLE DAY. I was 47 years old
when I did that.   That's about 1000 miles on a naked bike in a single day.

(On the side... after doing that stupid ride, I laid on my couch in my
living room for two days and couldn't move.)

What you don't see in my web presentation from the 1975 expedition to
Andorra is that I rode from my home in Berlin to Andorra in one single day -
also about 1000 miles.  But my Honda had a fairing so I had a bit of wind
protection on that run - and I was only 27 years old.

TODAY:  Hell, I'm lucky to walk to the car without stumbling and falling
down!

I own a 70s vintage Moto Guzzi police motorcycle with a semi-automatic
transmission.  In the manual which was clearly written before the lawyers
took over the world, it gives a procedure to set it started in the event of
a dead battery.  The rider is to put the machine into the low gear, attach a
tow rope to an automobile, and then at 35 miles an hour or so, let out the
clutch and drop the tow rope.  I have always opted to get it jump started,
instead.  BMWs are much easier to bump start...  Rick where is your Spirit
of Adventure?

Are you using the Argo 515 in this setup?
