A binaural receiving aid was patented (USPTO #4,434,508 ) in the 80's by American Systems Corporation.  The author/patent holder (then N4UU-not the current holder of that call) published a QST article (Feb 1986) using HP/LPfilters and a stereo amp in the audio chain.

The Elecraft K3/K3S accomplishes the same with DSP when the AFX mode is engaged.  However if using the sub-receiver/diversity capability, the AFX mode is somewhat redundant.

The March 1999 QST article by KK7B accomplishes the binaural capability at RF using direct conversion RX architecture.
About $10 worth of parts and a couple of hours time by can add audio channel binaural capability to any RX, but IMHO, not comparable to true dual-receiver/antenna diversity processing where the processing is done @ RF and provides greater possibilities of desired/undesired signal diversity (K3/K3S/Orion).
