Oh yes, for AM 60 watts would be excessive, based on my experience.   The Centurion has about 10 dB gain (+ a bit depending on band).  Thus 60 watts in would produce 600 out.  At 600 watts, AM carrier modulated 100% is 2400 watts PEP or twice the rating and capacity of the amp.  Normally about 20 to 25 watts drive is all that's needed.
