[TenTec] Eagle tuning dial friction

Mike:

Glad that resolved that part of the problem.   As to making it smoother,
this is usually a component or artifact of the encoder. Some are just
smoother than others.   I don't know anyway to improve them.  If you
remove the rubber ring, this will expose the screw holes to the set
screws.  Loosen them, pull the knob off.  I think there is a bushing on
the front panel for this shaft.  A small drop of silicon based oil might
help.

My Eagle is a very very old unit and it has survived lots of use and
abuse.  In fact, I used it to beta test all the versions of firmware,
included many pre-release versions.   Later it was in my truck for a few
years.  Now I carry it back and forth between the desk, the shop and our
travel trailer.  Still hangs in there and does a great job.  It has been
used at Field Day in the years past and suffered one fatality the result
of using it on 80M PSK and the operator switched to 20M PSK and didn't
bother to change the external tuner.  After a couple of hours operating,
it stopped transmitting.  It was bloody hot too!   Oh well, a pair of
new PA devices, $45 found on Amazon, and it was back in business.  Darn
easy to repair.
