[TenTec] Eagle minor woes

Roger that! Especially if you mainly work CW. The 2.003 helps more on SSB.

If you have an old computer running XP, the update is a cake-walk.
Win-7 works pretty good, but a lot of people had difficulties when running
Win-10.
As far as I know, though, everyone eventually managed in the end.

For that reason I still keep one of my very old business laptops with Win-XP
on it, just for updating firmware.
Lots of firmware updates more easily with it than with newer versions.

Don't know if I'll work IOTA this year; certainly not from portable.
I just returned from WRTC-2018 in Wittenberg.
I dabbed at the contest with a portable setup., right on the Elbe river,
about 25 miles west of where all of the 63 WRTC stations were set up.
I ran a Scout, and SKY-SDR transceivers and an Aerial-51 Model 404-UL
antenna.
I don't like taking my Eagle to the field where it can get damaged by dust
or rain.

Rick, OK, I've got at least 2 votes in favor of 2.003. I just don't want to
mess anything up before the IOTA contest so I am going to be extra careful.
Thanks and 73

I recommend upgrading to 2.003.

Rick, I didn't think so either. Firmware is 2.001. It has the AT and the
300 Hz filter.

It's not normal for the Eagle to do that.
What firmware revision are you running on the Eagle?

Folks, I ran my Eagle for about 16 hours straight in the IARU contest
yesterday and as the hours wore on it got warmer with the fan coming on more
often. Of course here it is doing exactly what it is supposed to. What I
did notice is that towards the end, it began to lock up (tuning dial had no
effect, would not transmit). I was able in each case to bring it back to
life by power cycling with a brief off period, but of course that sends the
COM port in the laptop into never never land and it took several gyrations
with enabling/disabling/enabling the port, pulling an reinserting cables,
more power cycling, etc., to get the radio to talk to he PC again (N1MM+
logger, about which I can't say enough nice things). Anyway, sort of under
the heading of first world problems, what's the list wisdom on why the Eagle
is going kind of brain dead now and then, apparently when warm? Is this
"normal" behavior, "to be expected" of a complex hardware/software system,
or is there really a cause we should be looking for? Thanks for your
thoughts and 73, Mike W2IY
