The capacitors on the A9 board will deteriorate with age and heat to
lesser effective values of MFD or capacitance.   This causes the various
regulators associated with the A9 power distribution board not to
stabilize correctly and will cause initial boot up problems.
Frequently turning the radio off and then on will allow the voltage to
stabilize and the microprocessor to load the operating system.   That is
until next time when one finds that cycling the radio on and off a few
times to get it up and running.

Also, radios of this age may have intermittent issues due to oxidation
of internal connectors.   It is a good practice to thoroughly clean all
connectors once ever 7 to 10 years or so. And the Molex power connector
on the rear of the radio along with the mating connector on the DC cable
will loosen and have poor contact.   One can use needle nose pliers to
carefully tighten the pins, but they will eventually loosen again.
Look for discoloration on the white plastic/nylon housing of the
connectors.  Thus replacement of both the male and female connectors is
suggested.

These radios are relatively easy to repair and keep going for a long time.
