Are you saying it works with external VFO but not internal VFO?

I suggest you use a general coverage receiver to listen for the various
oscillators, VFO, BFO and band select oscillator and see if there is one
that you cannot hear. Maybe use a probe or small loop antenna to sniff for
the signals from the part of the radio where they are supposed to be
generated. I'm guessing one of them is either not working or the path from
the oscillator to mixer/detector is not intact. Have you tried all bands
and all modes? If it is a BFO problem it may work on some modes and not
others. Similarly if there is a problem with band select oscillator it may
work on some bands and not others.
