[TenTec] 585 Paragon

Greetings, Snowy. What you describe is exactly the way it is supposed to
work. The S-Meter is actually reading the AGC voltage which is proportional
to the strength of the signal. If you have AGC off, then the S-meter reads
zero. Likewise, when AGC is on it is reducing the volume of signals for
anything more than S-0, so basically for all signals, reducing more for the
stronger signals. If you think weak signals are being lost by that
attenuation, you can turn off the AGC, which is why the switch is there.

Hi All

some words of advice from you good gents please.

My Paragon 585 seems! to have a problem, no 'S' meter movement during RX,
however if i switch on the AGC i get meter movement BUT at a reduced volume,
that doesn't seem right to me, however i hope to be guided by you learned
gents out there.
