[TenTec] Problem with Hercules II

What you describe sure sounds like a relay problem to me.

Although I dont have a Hercules II amp, I do have the same problem
with my 20m 2-el vertical phased array. When I go to rx, sigs are
sometimes weak. but after applying power from my amp, it quickly
clears up.....until the next time. This intermittent issue has to be
due to poor contacts in the coax relay I use for remote switching
between NW and SE.

If the relays are not sealed, a spray of DEOXIT cleaner would do the
trick.

Do you see any SWR issues during transmit? From your comments, I
suspect not. Which brings me back to the relay contacts causing a high
resistance to low signal levels but not when RF is applied.

Good luck.

Subject: [TenTec] Problem with Hercules II

 Hello:

I have a problem with my hercules II. When switching from transmit to
receive there is a loss of sensitivity. The problem is intermittent.
Keying the amp a couple of times the sensitivity returns. Problem
exists
with keying via VOX relay and also with QSK mode. Switching the
amplifier off brings the sensitivity back at once. I think there is a
problem with a contminated contact in one of the relays in receive.
The
Kilovac K41C vacuum relay in the output was o.k. After instaling a
new
relay the problem still exists. Maybe one of the relays on the Input
 splitter board (81430). Probably K3.

 Any ideas?
