FINLAND FORMULA ONE RACING TEAM
Watch out for OH0BH and OH2BH, plus
JW5E firing up from Svaldbard
Surely you’re familiar with Formula One, the world’s premiere
motorsport race. Thus, you will no doubt recall our 1999
F1 racing approach in CQWW SSB, with Jeff Steinman, N5TJ
piloting EA8BH to new heights in single-op, all-band scoring
(http://www.qsl.net/oh1noa/ccf2000/formula1.htm).
Martti J. Laine, OH2BH, spokesman for the team, informs the
contesting community of the following:
“In the wake of last year’s success, we are adopting the same
approach to test the F1 concept at continental and sub-regional
levels while returning to the world arena only for CQWW CW.”
Here, the team has been working hard to build competitive sites for
the current racing season. Ilkka Korpela, OH1WZ will be piloting
the OH0BH site on Aland Islands, targeting a new European all-band
record, while Timo Klimoff, OH1NOA is going to be at the controls
at OH2BH, aiming for an all-time high from mainland Finland.
Ilkka Korpela, 32, is no stranger to serious contesting. His skills
and strategic thinking are well recognized in Finland, and he has
scored well in several domestic races. He has studied and experimented
with several dual-station configurations; hence the OH0BH site now
features a full-fledged dual-radio/beam setup under Ilkka's command.
See Ilkka's homepage at http://www.helsinki.fi/~korpela/amateur.htm
Timo Klimoff, 32, secretary and editor-in-charge of Contest Club
Finland, scored extremely well (placing 5th) in WRTC-2000.
He is used to racing at OH1AF/OH1F, and he has got a sharp eye
for goodly multiplier runs. Timo is really looking forward to the
contest from the OH2BH site with multiple-direction arrays, and
is determined to take full advantage of the F1 team experience.
Check out Timo's homepage at http://www.qsl.net/oh1noa/
Martti further comments: "The contesting community is encouraged
to call in and provide these runners with a meaningful playing ground by
giving our pilots full support for their projected QSO and multiplier
levels. Both stations are fully equipped for quick band exchange following
your check-in".
It will be interesting to see how this approach works on continental
(Europe) and national (Finland) levels.
This year's support team features; OH2BE, OH2BK, OH2DT, OH2MM, OH2PM,
OH2QM, OH2TA, OH3QK, OH6RM, OH7NA, OH8QD, OH8SR and The Finnish
Antenna (OH1JT & OH2HE ) and FinnFet Ltd ( OH1MA & OH1RY ) but also our
valuable site supports; Bengt ( OH0 ) , Ilkka, Lauri and Touko.
Due to a cancelled Far East operation, both Martti, OH2BH and Pekka,
OH2TA will be participating in the CQWWSSB by joining the JW5E team in
Svaldbarg and making a double multiplier available for this year's event together
with Mathias, LA5NM/JW5NM and Ragnar, LA7FD/JW7FD and their team.
