It was intended to be a cozy relaxed weekend of two young contest enthusiasts from the early 70's getting together after  some 25+ years with all the nice SAC memories from the "old days", but as the gettogether finally had to be postponed at the  last moment, a quick plan B was invented and put into practice.

One radio, one tower, no packet, low power - just like it used to be!  
Well, almost - may paper logging rest in peace. ;-)

Everything at my home club station up in (ex) OH6 area worked just perfectly - except 80m. In this city qth the whole 80m  band is unfortunately ruined by heavy (S9) noise. I knew of this 80m noise problem, but still wanted to give it a try. I'm  happy to say that the extra G5RV antenna put up on Saturday saved me from a complete disaster on 80m. I'm pretty certain  that 70-80% of the 80m qsos would not have been made without the G5RV as a backup rx antenna.

The propagation on Saturday was great, but unfortunately things cooled down for me during the night. On Sunday a lot of  imagination was needed while trying to find the ways to keep the qso rate at least reasonable. Gee - maybe it's all this  needed extra activity that finally kept this mid-aged indoor type operator in amazingly good shape for all the 24 contest  hours!  Some good "Paksalo polka" modified for a solo-artist with more traditional type instruments was also performed to  keep the steam up - and with most enjoyable results I might add. In the end I'm very happy to report a score, which exceeds  the old SAC CW scandinavian low power record by 22%. ;-)


It was really nice to hear the bands full of WRTC2002 team members, referees, judges and officials! Many of them promised to  be there - and indeed there they were too! Hearing and working all these happy people was great. I enjoyed myself with  staying more or less "incognito" and saying hello to quite a few guys by name. ;-)  Each and every qso reminded me of some  nice memories from last summer - related directly to the guy I just worked or something else. Thank you guys! I hope that  the SAC will become a tradition also for you from now on! ;-)

  
For me the SAC 2002 CW was getting "back to the basics" as a visitor to my old home club -  and having SUPER GREAT FUN! ;-)
I owe a BIG THANK YOU to the club officials and activists, who checked and repaired everything to be in such a good shape!   The club spirit is still well and alive!
