WRTC-2006

OLYMPIAD NOW SET TO END IN BRAZIL

The world's top contesters will get together again, this time in Florianopolis, Brazil in July next year (www.wrtc2006.com). A total of forty-five (45) WRTC stations will be set up on a magnificent 100-kilometer beach, along with fifteen (15) full-scale Multi/Single stations hosted by Brazilians. Each M/S site will be run by an international crew of 3-4 persons, and they will compete in a race of their own.

Contest Club Finland (CCF) is going to make attractively priced group travel arrangements for a trip to Brazil. The Finnish national team will naturally be provided with all possible support from the home country. Finns will also supply the Brazilian hosts with a web-based scoreboard.

As for the race itself, one new development is that both operators will have equal operating rights, and a team may also represent two different countries. New features concerning station equipment include a 40M beam and a linear amplifier.

The team captain to be selected from Finland is going to be judged in terms of a multitude of personal characteristics and operating capabilities, but the winner of Finnish qualifying races will take a long step toward Brazil.

Finland's captain candidates - OH1JT, OH1NOA, OH2UA, OH4JFN, OH6RX and OH0XX - will be taking part in the IARU HF World Championship on July 9-10, 2005. Each candidate will be issued at random with a WRTC-2002-specified operating site and an OH*W callsign from the following series: OH2W, OH4W, OH5W, OH6W, OH7W, OH8W and OH9W. The following have promised to act as hosts: OH1PV, OH1RX, OH1XX, OH2HAN, OH2HUH, OH2MH and OH2MM. Because hosts outnumber candidates by one, you had better be prepared for a dark horse.

This IARU contest will test the candidates' ability to operate a low-power station. In September, the candidates will be allowed to run full-scale stations for SAC when the focus is on multiplier moving and correct log entries.

In connection with the IARU contest, Scandinavian and Baltic hams will have an opportunity to work the stations and evaluate their operating style. At the start of the race, the candidates will show up on 80M CW from 12:30-13:00 UTC. The aim is to work all stations as quickly as possible. The same will be repeated at the end of the competition from 11:30-12:00 UTC on SSB. Participants working all seven stations during the event will be awarded with a WRTC-2002 video, and the fastest one from each participating country will receive a special prize at the next CCF meeting.

Send an SMS message with the callsign of the station you judge to be the best plus your own callsign to this number: +358 500 300534 and you may win a raffle prize. For example: "OHxxx OH2BCV". Send your message on Sunday between 12:00-13:00 UTC. Ten WRTC-2002 videos will be set aside for the raffle. Final results will be announced right after the IARU contest on 3666 kHz.
