[TOEC] [CCF] SAC proposals for 2007 and beyond

We already proposed from SM last year to change the date of the SSB part,
unfortunately that was voted down by the Finnish contest committee (OH6LI).
I think it is a good idea as well to move the SSB section away from CQRY.
BUT! The main issue of preserving SAC is to create a SAC Contest Committee.
If the OH boys make a great effort this year -in their own way- and the next
country does not even show results until after next SAC, we get bad will
again.
Who for one instance knows what awards has been sent out? I for myself know
of several individuals who are still waiting for numerous SAC plaques
abroad, this is NOT good.
We can keep changing rules every year, but that does not solve the core
issue!
It should in my point of view be a SAC Committee that probes the Nordic
contest community and makes rule changes, that way we avoid for instance
what happened when 36 hours was changed to 24. Many ppl got pissed off!
Who will maintain a updated SAC webpage? Who will see to that results come
out not later than 6 months after the contest? Who will see to that ALL
endorsements are distributed? Who can someone abroad speak to about SAC? Who
works on PR in ham magazines and newslists/forums all over the world?
These questions are just a few uncertainties we currently have that a real
homogen group of guys could easily solve by starting a SAC Committee.
LETS NOT CONTINUE! To send hundreds of emails, who likes what rule changes
and who does not like rule changes, that is not the core issue!
I agree, Finland, change date of SSB weekend in consensus with the rest of
us, but do not do any further rule changes, let us instead discuss the
creation of a SAC Contest Committee for 2008! We could easily have a forum
for this on the CCF cruise in January.

I believe the consensus is about not suggesting too drastic
changes to the rules. It has its risks. Saying this, I also
see that in the long run rule-changes won't help, but we
must concentrate more on getting hams interested in SAC
and contests. CCF will, on its part, do its best in 2007 to
promote SAC again and we could do much better in OH to get
newcomers. I hope that the actual work and gathering
of ideas (brainstorming) for promotion of SAC 2007 would bring
together a little larger audience next year. This year it was,
despite of calls for help, basically a two-man team with
help from OH2, SM, VK8 and W6.
Still few words aBout mixing CW/SSB:
In some way, the two events, CW and SSB weekend, have
their own flavor. Mixing the modes would perhaps ? bring more parti-
cipants in total, but would each category have more competition?
Would those who compete now in CW stay there, those who compete
in SSB stay in that category, and would we get _new_ people to fill
the CW/MIXED category (or to fill gaps in CW and SSB)?
This is perhaps wrong to assume, a more fair
question would be: would there be a larger number of 2-way qsos
in a one-weekend SAC in comparison to two separate weekends? A rule
change should perhaps not lead to reduction in the total number
of 2-way SAC qsos. Also, SAC would fill a lot of spectrum leaving
non-contesters just RTTY and the safe-segments on CW and Phone. It
would not be liked by many.
I hope I have answered your question in this.
There's room for discussion about suggestions of rule changes -
I have even got some e-mails now from LA and SM in which there is support
for moving SSB away from the current position, as well as other
suggestions/questions:
- inclusion of a multi 2 category?
- Allowing SO2R in single op (what is definition of single TX, refine)
- single op single band category (definition of, refine)
- returning to the old "saturday was a working day" timetable 15Z-18Z
(which to me would also be appealing having experienced it)
