Hi all,
I thought the contest would give me the opportunity to take some
"snapshots" of USA signals strengths as received here in southern
England.
The following reports are taken from the S meter of my Yaesu FT1000D
using my main vertical antenna to receive on. They are just snapshots at
one particular time - since the band changed from hour to hour.

I tried to wait for peaks of QSB before logging the reports on each
station. These observations made me realise just how difficult it is to
give comparisons - propagation really did move around quite quickly.
An S 8 report now could be S 5 in 15 mins time, then back up again an
hour later.
I decided to use my main transmitting antenna to get meaningfull reports
of the FT1000D meter so that you can relate to them.
The antenna consists of a 100ft top section with a 75ft vertical dropped
from the middle of the horizontal wire - a classic T antenna. I have
around 100 quarter wave radials radials laid out on the ground with a
further 30ft by 30ft area of bonded chicken wire at the base.
I hope you find the report of interest anyhow
