     Dear Alex and Topbanders.

I had a similar receiving problem on other Caribbean islands. Used a
beverage strung out across the local vegetation quite successfully.
Took S7-9 noise down to S-2 on an IC-740. From where you are a
beverage at 320 degrees +/- should do fine for USA and JA. K4PI
points out you can get skew path and have New England coming in like
they were in northern Europe. Just before your sunrise, if it is dark
in Japan, you should be able to work some JA's with the usual split
frequencies. You might also consider a beverage just north of west
for Arizona, California, etc.. From Curacao, I worked a lot of them
listening off the back of a 110 degree unterminated beverage that I
couldn't pull out on a 330 degree beverage that worked fine for JA and
the rest of the USA, Alaska, etc.

     73 George K8GG

I WILL BE LEAVING FOR V4 ON 12 FEB AND WILL OPERATE ARRL DX CW, CQWW160
SSB, ES ARRL DX SSB AS V47KP.
THE TRANSMIT ANTENNA IS A SLOPING HALF-WAVE DIPOLE FACING EUROPE, AND
SUSPENDED FROM A 200' TOWER LOCATED ON A RIDGE ABOUT 1000' ABOVE THE SEA.
BUT THE RECEPTION IS HORRIBLE UNLESS THERE ARE NO, 0, NONE-- THUNDER
STORMS AROUND, WHICH IS RARE. I WILL TRY AN EQUILATERAL TRIANGLE DELTA
LOOP FACING EUROPE, AND MOVE THE DIPOLE OVER TOWARDS STATESIDE, NW.
IF ABLE I WILL OPERATE FROM 2300-0100 AND AT EUROPE SUNRISE AS OFTEN AS
I CAN, BUT MY WIFE IS COMING DOWN THE WEEK BEFORE CQWW160 SO THIS MAY BE
CURTAILED.

I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY SUGGESTIONS FROM JA AS TO TIME AND FREQUENCY FOR
JA STATIONS AND WILL MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO WORK PACIFIC/JA PATHS. SEND
ME YOUR SUGGESTED TIME AND FREQUENCY HERE BEFORE TUESDAY, FEB 11.

I HOPE TO BE ABLE TO GET ON THE INTERNET BUT THIS MIGHT NOT BE POSSIBLE
SINCE THE LAPTOP IS TOO SLOW AND THERE MAY OR MAY NOT BE A TELEPHONE LINE
UP AT THE MOUNTAIN SITE.

QSL VIA K2SB, 73 AND WILL SEE YOU FROM V47KP ALEX W20X/V47KP
