TopBand: Wire FENCES and Ground Mounted Verticals ...

To our large database of "them in the know":

Here's my query ....

Has anyone (public/private/government/etc) done any studies
of the 'effects' of what exactly happens to the pattern of
a single, or an array of verticals when placed near wire fences ?

Does a 4' high cattle fence "attenuate" the RF from say 1 degrees up to
a point equal to the top of the 4' high cattle fence ?

Or for the frequency range of 1.8>4.0 does the vertical "see" the fence
at all ? Would grounding the fence make any difference ?

Does the fence act as a reflector, or just totally screw things up
beyond reason in the direction that the fence is positioned ?

Like wise the more common "Sears chain link" is it worse than the style
of cattle fence that has it's pattern of squares at 6-8" intervals ?

I think the debate on ground verses elevated gets closer and closer as
the number of radials is increased, that point is begining to be even
agreed upon by both camps ...

My spin on this is ... 16 ground mounted radials to a 0.25w vertical
mounted say 10' away from a 4' "wire fence of some form" verses the
same vertical mounted with the feedpoint 8' above the ground but
using only 4 elevated radials, making it 4' ABOVE the fence ...

Which is "more better" ?

What say ? Looking for "real world" here ... TU !
