After Saturday's frustrating exercise from Ohio (I could hear
all the EU stations, but not work them. The W6/W7 stations worked them
easily), last night made me feel better about all the work done here to the
transmitting antenna over the weekend!
Most everything heard was worked first call, although it seems everyone
East of the Mississippi except me was in bed after 0500Z! Fun started here at
0414Z with SV8ZS, and signals got much better after 0520Z.
All told, I heard and worked: SV8ZS, HA8BE, G4DBN, DF2PY, G3PQA, EA6ACC,
ON7GB, GM4BES, G3XRJ, KH6AT, and EI5HE from 0414Z to 0612Z. I heard some
other G and DL stations, but didn't call them.
I called Wolf, DF2PY, only because he was louder than I've heard him
before (at 0503Z), clearly copyable on the inverted-L through my broadcast
birdies on 1.830.
I was "laying in wait" for EI5HE: logged spots on our local PacketCluister
node showed that he tended to show up after 0600Z on 1.827 +/-, so I
listened there from 0550Z - 0600Z, then called CQ until he showed and
called me. He wasn't strong, but he was copyable.
After returning from five years away from radio, I'm trying to work 100
countries from my "rebirth" in mid-August through the end of 1997. I'm up
to 31 now, and have plenty of contest-activated countries to look forward
to this year!
