TopBand: Bev's on ground

Hello all experts
Can I lay out an insulated wire on ground and use it as a 
beverage? Feedpoint? Any length targets? 
Can I use a beverage hooked up to trees deep in the woods?
I am still listening on my shunt fed tower and need something 
else.
