Not sure how many folks know it or not but two Frenchmen will be doing a
DXpedition on Amsterdam Island as FT5ZH from 27 November to 23 December
of this year. The operators are Mehdi, F5PFP, and Erik, F5SIH. This is
an excellent time of the year for us in the northern hemisphere to work
them on the low bands. This will be an all band effort. Both of these
guys have gotten special permission to go and only operate. I do not
know how much backing they have. I do know that a heavy duty
Battlecreek Special may be used. I know these guys would like to borrow
2 amplifiers as they plan to have two complete stations on the air.
Perhaps someone in Europe could do this? For those interested they have
a webpage at http://perso.easynet.fr/~f5nod/ft5z.html
If you can help either financially or with equipment please contact
either Gil, F5NOD, the European pilot at <f5nod@easynet.fr> or Jeffrey,
WA6KBL, at <jpawlan@pawlan.com>
I have spoken on the phone with Jeffrey and he told me that the TAFF
will not allow a big DXPedition to the island. This may very well be
the biggest DXpedition to any of the FT5 islands.
