"At last my very good friend Mark, ON4WW, has his S0 license.
>From now on he can operate as S07WW from Western Sahara.
He think to be "on air" from june 15th to 20th.
QSL cards via ON5NT.
My best 73 to all world's Dxers Julio, EA5XX"
As we all know, Mark (ex-9X4WW) likes 160 and we can probably
expect him to do a very nice job from S0 after he is settled.
Regarding ZL1AMO, my advice is not to waste ANY sleep chasing Ron
on 160. Some guys like the band and some don't...Ron is definitely in the
latter category. I have worked everything in Oceania on 160, lost untold hours
of sleep listening to Ron on 40 CW from many rare spots, and never worked him
for a new one on Topband. Others will do a much better job on 160 from any
place he goes so just be patient and you will eventually have another chance
with someone who is more "160-friendly".
Speaking of privateer expeditioners who really like 160, a few of my
favorites are DK7PE, JA5DQH, DL3DXX/YB1AQS, DL3KDV, K8MN (J52US, 9L1US, A22MN,
etc), ZS6EZ and most recently W6RJ (3 of my last 5 new ones!) These guys can
be counted on to:
1. Put out a decent signal (i.e. good 160 antenna plus amplifier).
2. Spend a reasonable amount of time on the band at appropriate times.
3. Know propagation and how to operate with usual 160 QSB, QRN, etc.
4. Are willing to give Topband a chance instead of maximizing $$$.
It is too bad that some of the above ops are not as active as they
once were (DK7PE, K8MN, and JA5DQH for example) but thank goodness for some
of the newer ops (DL3DXX/YB1AQS, DL3KDV and W6RJ) who are filling their big
shoes on Topband!
