TopBand: quad vs. yagi @ low height

Well gosh,17 meters isn't topband, but what the heck...
Given the very low height figures you quote I would install it as a yagi
arrangement, but hang it with the elements vertical instead of horizontal,
i.e. a vertical beam... By having the H plane horizontal, a single beam
heading to the middle of your desired coverage area will give broad
coverage... By having the E plane vertical you overcome your problem of a high
launch angle restricting your first hop distance... Get a copy of Moxons work,
"HF Antennas for All Locations", as it is invaluable for designing and
installing HF antennas in small areas..
