Topband: Using Euro BC stations as propagation beacons

A number of European and other Trans-Atlantic medium wave
broadcast stations are often heard in the eastern US and
Canada, particularly at seacoast locations around local
sunset. Stations above 1100 kHz are the most relevant to
forecasting likely 160-m openings. These can also be useful
for checking antenna directivity. A few of the "big guns"
are Croatia-1134, UK-1215, Libya-1251, Norway-1314, Germany-1422,
France-1467, and Saudi Arabia-1521.

An excellent Web site for representative loggings of these
signals is "http://nrcdxas.org/idxd/" (the archives of the
National Radio Club's International DX Digest column).
For a look at such reception from North America's "front
door to the Atlantic", check the Newfoundland DXpedition
page at "http://members.xoom.com/MarkWA1ION/nfdxpage.htm" .

DX listeners below 1800 kHz also do a good deal of technical
experimentation, like their 160-m counterparts. Some good
links to the research are available on "http://www.lwca.org/",
"http://members.aol.com/MarkWA1ION/weblink.htm", and
"http://home.inforamp.net/~funk/".

Happy surfing & happy New Year !
