Nice to hear quiet conditions Sunday night a few hours after the contest.
OK1DQT, SM4CAN and some others from Eu were very loud with absolutely no
noise. Then 3DA0CA fired up calling CQ on 1827.4, listening up 2, at 0340z.
Not a new one, but nice to have in the log. Heard quite a few West Coast
calling Jon. Went back to tuning the band in search of YK1AO, and found ZS5K
579 on 1824.4. Had heard he was looking for Delaware, so glad to give him a
new one.
Back to tuning. At 0350z I hear a familiar fist on 1829.3 calling a long CQ,
in the clear -- it's YK1AO! He paused briefly, ignored my calling, and
started up CQing again. When he paused again, THIS time I remembered to
crank the keyer way down, to about 10 wpm. No one else was calling him. Omar
came back with a piece of my call, gave me a report, and turned it over.
Sent my call several times and the report, and turned it back. Suddenly his
clear frequency was getting clobbered -- the pileup for 3DA0CA had started
up again just a few hundred hz above Omar. But managed to copy him through
it to hear him confirm and we finished the QSO after one more over.
Sometimes it pays to lose some more sleep the night after the contest! (We
were at W3PP for the 48 hours of the test).
