The ARRL Members-Only section has a news story about the broadband "buzz"
heard on 80m recently.
N0AH's post on the Topband reflector was one of the information sources.
Here's the brief summary:
What's the Buzz? (October 7, 1999) -- Efforts are under way in the US and
Canada to identify the source of what's being described as a loud and broad
"125 Hz buzz" that's been showing up on the 80-meter band. The ARRL
Monitoring System has requested FCC assistance in tracking down the harmful
interference, which has been audible primarily in the US Northeast.

"Additional reports and observations are welcome to ARRL Volunteer
Monitoring System Administrator Tom Hogerty, KC1J,
thogerty@arrl.org "
A summary of the story may also probably appear in the ARRL Letter this week.
