More explanation desired--
Section 4-8 of the TenTEC Omni6+ manual begins "The phase noise
characteristics of the OMNI VI depend entirely on the design of the 5,0 -
5.5 MHz synthesizer. The synthesizer is actually a two loop system....
...the synthesizer 10 Hz tuning resolution is derived from a voltage
controlled crystal oscillator(VXCO)Y1,Q2....(on the same PLL board)
Section 4-9 begins "This module generates the main local oscillator
signal....The synthesized 5.0 to 5.5 MHz signal is mixed with the crystal
oscillator signal.... (this oscillator is on the L.O.Mixer board and is not
the above oscillator)
It sure would be helpful if the manual had a block diagram for explanation.
Not tower talk, but loosely related i.e. better signal means better antenna,
better towers, and better rx!
