I have been a QRP operator in varying degrees for the past 11 years.
Actually I've never owned a linear but will finally have one for this
upcoming 160 meter DX season but only 400 watts.
I operated QRP only on 160 meters from Colorado in the 1994-95 and
1995-96 seasons using a 3/8 wave L with a 62 foot vertical section and
four 1/4 wave and sixteen 1/8 wave counterpoise wires up eight feet.
All contacts were made with hams that has some superb listening
antenna's out there. Results- 8 Countries (10 watts phone), 48 States (5
watts cw). Very difficult going indeed.
Using 100-135 watts I've fared better using similar antennas. I guess
in a sense though 100 watts is still QRP on 160 meters. You can see the
orginal results at http://kn4lf.tripod.com/index-8.html but I can say
each new state and country has been a thrill with low and medium power.
