Topband: Genie comes out of the bottle

Alakazamm. Terrific conditions into North America in the hour or so after
VK6 sunset for the last three nights, particularly on last night (Thursday).

Tuesday night found big signals predominantly from OH, MI and IL, but
Wednesday was even better into these areas. Tom W8JI who usually is the
dominant NA signal was 3 'S' points down on stations in DE, OH, MI and IL,
with propagation definitely favouring these more northern states rather
than GA, TN and VA.

However, Thursday was the big night, with signals coming in from a wide
variety of eastern seaboard states and propagation extending as far west as
MO and MT. Almost a third of the stations worked had signals peaking over
S9(!), although sometimes with heavy QSB.

Thank you to all those who stood by while I tried for a contact with HO1A
(unfortunately the propagation genie couldn't help with that one) and
special thanks to Geo W8UVZ. The topband is still truly a gentleperson's
band.

Let's hope the genie stays loose for a few more days.

Vy 73,

Steve, VK6VZ
