Dear Gang,

I live on a 1 acre wooded lot in Atlanta, GA. I have
been able to put together a competitive 160 station at
this QTH. I have a Rohn 100 foot 45G tower in the back
of the house.

On it I have a 1/2 sloper to Asia, and a 4-XRay array to
Europe (after 4X4NJ, Riki). It is a bottom fed sloping
vertical array. The apex of the half-sloper is at about
80 feet. The high point of the 4-XRay array is at about
the same height. The 4-XRay array has a loading coil at
the base, and is tied into a rather extensived radial
system.

I also have an inverted "U" after K8RRH. It is up 60 or
so feet, out 100 feet, and back down to ground. It is
fed with a series inductor and a Jennings UCLS-1000
vacuum variable to ground. This antenna has been
successfully used by many 160 DX-ers. Mine has a radial
system at each end.

For receive I have:

a) 160 meter flat-top dipole up about 7 feet.

b) 160/80 meter EWE to the NE with a K2ZJ preamp.

c) 160 meter EWE to the SW with an ICE indoor preamp.

d) 80 meter beverage to the North (240 feet).

(The SW EWE and the 80 meter beverage use ICE baluns).

It can be done on a relatively small city lot, though
not as small as some hams must contend with.

73,

John, W4NU
Atlanta
