While working on an LPFM applications online with the FCC I noticed a
series of tools the Audio Services Division makes available for general
use. An interesting one is "Inverse Field Calculations for AM Stations"
which is usable up to 1700 kHz, close enough for fairly acurate 1.8 Mhz
calculations. One nice item is that it allows tower down to 30 feet
with a field strength correction factor compared to the theoretical 1/4
wave antenna. The program also provides a correction factor for a
radial system that is less than ideal.

To access the program at the FCC:

Go to their site at: http://www.fcc.gov
Click on their "Topical Index"
Drill Down to Audio Services Division
Drill Down to AM Radio
Drill down to "Inverse Distance Field Calculations for AM Stations" and
Run the Program.

The Audio Services division also has a tool box section where several
useful RF calculations may be made on line.
