North was the only way I could hear anything from Buenos Aires, even EU.
>From here in the UK, north is sometimes the only way to hear far eastern
Russia and central Asia (BTW, pennants are a bit broad so maybe east of
north is really the path, but without beverages, it's close enough).

For those of us in the USA that is probably true. For those of you in
Central and South America, a north beverage can be very useful. There are
times when the path from Eastern USA to Caribbean is skewed over the
Atlantic Ocean. Similarly there are times when Western Europe is skewed
over the Atlantic. For the serious operator a north beverage can help, if
you are below the Tropic of Cancer (23 deg North Latitude).
