Topband: Shortened and Low Dipole

While I agree that a vertical will do better than a dipole when working
very weak DX due to it's low angle of radiation, a dipole will frequently
outperform a vertical - at least at this QTH.
I have used and still use a low dipole on 160 meters, 243 feet long, 35 feet
high
and in 6-7 months, worked and CONFIRMED all 48 states and 20 countries
including South Africa and Belgium in the fall/winter season of 2000-2001.
All of this was done using ssb NOT cw. Don't count out dipoles they are
better than nothing at all.
P.S. I do have a vertical now.
