Topband: ANC-4 noise canceller

Hello TopBanders,

I have been bothered with severe power line noise here at
my QTH for over a year now and our local electric utility -
Commonwealth Edison - basically has told me that their
lines are "within spec" and that there are no more problems
that they can correct. The line noise on 160 meters, as
received on my delta loop with the noise blanker on the
rig not turned on, is S9 + 10 dB. It is a noise of a constant
nature and the weather seems to have very little effect on
the amount and the type of noise received.

Awhile back, someone on this reflector suggested that I
invest in a Timewave ANC-4 noise canceller. I went to
Timewave's website and did some reading on this device.
It said that the unit has a power handling capacity of 250
watts.

I sometimes operate with a linear amplifier and was won-
dering about the 250 watt spec on the ANC-4. In my case,
would I place the ANC-4 between the rig and the linear?
If someone has experience using this unit, especially in
conjunction with the use of a linear amplifier, I'd very much
like to hear from them.

Thanks for any input.
