There is a skip zone on 160 just as 80 just
>not as pronounced. During winter and during the low part of a sunspot cycle
>the skip zone  becomes more noticeable.

My 80 metre dipole, fed with open wire line as a quarter-wave dipole on 160, 
puts about 30 dB more signal into Nashville (approx. 50 miles away) than 
does my quarter wave vertical with full radial ground system.
