You can see my response there but I agree that sometimes a wide
filter (2.0 kHz with filters fully narrowed and shifted in the MP) 
and AGC off seems just as effective!  Think that's what I was doing 
to hear ET3PMW who had a S7 signal under S9+++ crashes.  The DSP
method described above works better for very weak signals at my 
noise floor.
