Topband: beverage antennas

i live on a Seattle street running north and south, and the just
completed AA dx contest i ran a 1000 foot wire on the ground -of course-
in parallel with all the street lights, power wires, telephone etc. and
used a 500 ohm termination connected to a 12 inch screwdriver in which i
drove into the ground

this was all done between 2 and 3 am Saturday morning, hoping to hear
some JAs. no luck but the beverage seemed to work as expected



this morning at 2am i again put out the beverage, but made it 500 feet
with the same termination, for 80 meters. WOW! more noise that i could
imagine, with little if any JA signals. my K9AY on 80 meters was more
quiet and had louder JA amplitudes.
