That radio left bad taste in my mouth regarding Ten-Tec, especially when
they implied that I didn't know how to operate the receiver. Being
retired (retired communications engineer on the Space Shuttle orbiter and
the B-2 Stealth bomber), I was able to devote full time to testing my
Orion, trying all the tricks - including those they mentioned on
configuring the AGC - and nothing worked to improve its weak-signal CW
reception. The Orion was a big disappointment in that category and, to
me at least, was an ergonomic nightmare. Thank God they had a 30-day
money-back guarantee.

They squelched my feeling that I had a lemon when they bench tested my
Orion for a week with the conclusion that "there's nothing wrong with
it".

I'm eagerly awaiting lab test results on the Yaesu FTdx-9000, which is to
go on the market next month.

With Ten-Tec (Orion), Icom (IC-7800) and.Yaesu (FTdx-9000) all with
entries in the narrow roofing filter/"SuperRadio" category, has Kenwood
taken notice and do they have something looming on the horizon?
