I believe on the ground makes little difference vs a foot or two above.
My antennas at different heights.   Where I know I go by or deer go by,
the heights are not 4-6', I like them higher or lower.  Snow might weigh
the antenna down and break it.  Wire on the ground tends to get chewed by
critters.  Hell, if neighbors were a problem, I would put one in the grass
and forget it.  Good luck.
