Topband: TOP HAT GUY CORROSION

Thanks to everyone who sent along helpful tips regarding my problem. It is
now solved!

It would appear that the culprit is galvanic action, the result of using
"tinned" braid which was not quite up to snuff. Seems that when I
compressed the braid in the guy wire clamps some copper was exposed somehow,
and this reacted with the coating on the guy wire.

In my case, the solution seems to be use of a better quality tinned braid,
tinned thoroughly again just to be sure where it contacts the guy wire.
Several respondents suggested sealing the connection completely with some
form of mastic or "liquid tape" to further insure elimination of problems,
and overcoating the whole thing to resist U/V degradation. I have done all
these and hope my problem will not re-occur.

I was interested in the public posts regarding guy wire with a copper
content. I had never seen that product before.

Again, thanks to all who responded.
