Topband: Loop antennas

I think some of the newer operators on 160 have the misconception that a "loop antenna" is a gain antenna when it really is what I call an elimination antenna as it nulls out the undesirable signal and allows you to hear the signal that is present on that frequency. I use a 10 foot tuned looper on the "LOWFER" band 160-190 Khz and can copy "TH" in Coltsneck, NJ from Syracuse, NY running a 1 watt beacon that I cannot copy using any of numerous other antennas. Try it but be sure to seal the opening at the top (exactly half way around) so no water enters.
