For those who would like to have some estimate of their local ground
parameters at HF there are ways to make reasonable measurements with
simple test gear .  You will find a discussion of one approach, with
actual examples, at antennasbyn6lf.com under "soil parameter
measurements at HF".  The approach is far from perfect but is much
better than nothing and is really very quick and easy to do.
