I had a 33ft MFJ pole up for 3 years in Laguna Beach most of the year - the  
salt air and hot sun faded the black coating but otherwise it was sound. When 
I  brought it back here to NNJ after the first winter a section fractured 
slightly  -- I was able to glob on some expoxy and later lots of tape which sealed 
it some  but then another section fractured well beyond repair.  You're right 
-  these poles aren't cheap but they can be very convenient some  
applications.
