Topband: Simulating the conical monopole

Does anyone have experience simulating a conical monopole?

I'm using EZNEC. As a starting point, I'm simulating Figure 61 in the second
edition of Paul Lee's (N6PL -SK) book, "The Radio Amateur's Vertical Antenna
Handbook," page 52. The long and short is that I don't get the wide VSWR
bandwidth he (and a number of commercial manufacturers) claims for this
design. I'd be happy to send anyone who wants an EZNEC file.

Is there some reason this antenna doesn't enjoy more popularity among hams?
It seems like a good solution for 160 and 80 (and more) on a single tower.
