Well--when I used the K9AY I had the same problem. I suspect that the
character of your ground system has changed. Dry Wx??
I have also found that my Rx antennas, which are mounted in trees and
enclosed by woods fail to perform properly after the trees "green up" in
the spring.
I now use "flags" to get rid of the first problem (ground dependency) and
find that keeping noise pickup on the coax down is easier than with the
K9AY as a bonus. I found the K9AY to be a good performer, but very ground
dependent. When modeled, one sees the antenna you describe if no ground
system is included.
have not figgered out a good way to keep the trees from getting leaves.
Since the antennas are "trespass" antennas, I think I won't explore that
issue.
