Hi reflectees !
I totally agree with Tom`s explanations. Especially his last sentence about the 3 db increase. In many cases i guess a single db more would bring a QSO into the log . Too often i hear fragments of W6-calls but only the ones with the extra effort make it into the log. For that simple reason i am strongly supporting the idea of optimizing all of the station factors that can be optimized. Because it is those precious long-haul contacts that come as a reward for diggin` in wires and spending hours with a soldering iron.
Its those skills and the willpower to do it, that separates us from the ordinary plug-and-play ham and probably lets us act as wayleaders for others to join into 160.
