Topband: Preamplifier W7IUV and others questions

Hello topbanders,
i am interested in building the W7IUV preamplifier as described in "Low 
Band DX'ing" chapter 7-98 but can't find the 2N5109 nor the 2N3866.  Anyone 
has some ideas about the right replacement?
Another question: yesterday dec 29 JD1BMH comes up on topbad with very low 
sigs in EU (i was listening with a Beverage), after calling half hour i got 
him.  The day before he was also up but an unknown pirate, i think, jumped 
on his frequency maybe from western EU.
I saw some spots from JA stating "it is real" and others spots from EU "it 
is a pirate".  A friend of mine says "worked with a dipole!" but wasn't 
able to find anything on the online log, but the stations worked before and 
after his contact were found on the log.  Any suggestion?

Pirate or not, have a good 2009 DX filled!
