Jim,

The gas discharge tube is at the antenna input to ground. The capacitor has 
nothing to do with when the
gas tube will fire.

As I stated before, PolyPhaser has a very good handbook on lightning 
protection and it also explains
how they work. It is not free.

There are many myths about lightning and protection from it. There is 
NOTHING that will prevent a strike. One can
only minimize the damage done to none or a minimum. The stories about a 
spike at the top or multiple spikes is a side show
Elixir.

The I.C.E. units work very well also.
