And another is to make sure you raise the base off the ground in some 
what that lets any water drain from inside the pole. The  joints will 
let rain in and if it can't drain out of the bottom the pole will fill 
up inside to the severe detriment of the tuning and losses!

I know from painful experience...

It's amazing how much water even a 12m spiderbeam pole can hold inside!
