Trent,

the vertical will outperform the loop at 8'. I can send you plans for a
vertical that works on 160, 80 and 40 meters. Simply feed with coax and it
covers 20 kHz on 160 meters, 50 kHz on 80 meters, and 200 kHz on 40 meters.
