Topband: meteors

A question for knowledgeable topbanders who've been on the band
longer than I have. I can't remember any discussions or articles on
this subject.

We are currently near the peak of the annual Geminids meteor shower.
Coincidentally, topband conditions are poor despite "good STI
numbers". Is this related? I reason that if the meteors are ionizing
the E-layer enough to support propagation on 6 meters, wouldn't that
level of ionization be enough to absorb low-band signals attempting
to pass through it?

Has this been discussed/written on before?
